EDMONTON — Alberta will soon be getting another telephone area code.
The Western Telecommunications Alliance says starting April 9, the area code 825 will become available when people apply for new service across the province.
The alliance says there has been a dramatic increase in demand for communications services and technologies.
The new code will be introduced gradually in areas when the supply of numbers in the existing 780, 403 and 587 codes run out.
The alliance includes Shaw Communications, Telus, Rogers and Bell.
The new area code was announced by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission over concerns Alberta would run out of phone numbers by the summer of 2016.
