Spring 2016 Fashion Trends: 5 Must-Have Items For The Season

Consider it your cheat sheet to spring 2016's hottest fashion trends.

We get it — navigating through spring 2016's fashion trends can be a little bit overwhelming, even for we fashion folk.

Between the zillions of runway shows taking place during fashion month and the style bloggers/social media stars/influencers also delegating what's cool right now, deciding what to add to our wardrobes (especially when we're on a budget) is quite the challenge.

But luckily, we're here to do the work for you (it is what we're paid to do, after all), and fill you in on the five must-have items to buy this spring. And to make things even easier, we've rounded up a few shopping picks so you can rock these trends ASAP.

Here's your cheat sheet to spring 2016's fashion trends:

1. Anything Off-The-Shoulder

Some may call it the cold shoulder, but we say this trend is hot, hot, hot. An off-the-shoulder top (or dress) is a great way to show off some skin, in a not-so-revealing way. If you want to be really daring, go for a sheer lacy version a la Chloe Spring 2016 (pictured), or, find an off-the-shoulder top in a structured fabric and wear it with a pair of culottes.
2. Neckerchief

The '90s choker is totally having its moment right now, but it's getting to the point where it's a bit overdone (we know, sad, but true). If you want something else to wear around your neck (or with that off-the-shoulder top), try a neckerchief (or, small neck scarf), instead. The key is to wrap it tightly around your neck and leave a bit of fabric hanging out when tying your knot. Choose a bright scarf to add a pop of colour to a neutral palette, or do like Versace (pictured) and do print-on-print.
3. Denim, Denim, Denim

It's time to think outside of your typical jeans and chambray shirt and introduce other denim pieces into your wardrobe. Whether it be a denim dress, hat, or a crop top, you'll want anything jean-like in your closet this season. And if you want to add some spice to your jeans, opt for patchwork or printed denim, a la Chanel (pictured).
4. Lace-Up Shoes

Time to put away that lace-up bodysuit and bring the laces back down to your footwear. And no, we're not talking about sneaker laces, but rather lace-up flats, heels, sandals, you name it. You can go all-out with laces that go from toes to shin, or go for something more simple, like this chunky heel from Salvatore Ferragamo's spring 2016 runway.
5. Bold Earrings

Dainty jewelry had a moment, but now it's all about being bold with your accessories. The loudest jewelry on the spring 2016 runways? Earrings. But don't let Prada's orb earrings (pictured) scare you, you can still be daring without hurting your poor earlobes, but if you're like us and want to go all-out, by all means, please do so.
