Energy savings and green jobs aim of latest Manitoba NDP promise

WINNIPEG — Manitoba New Democrats are offering more help for people who want to cut their energy bills.

NDP Leader Greg Selinger says if his party is re-elected, he will cut interest rates on the PowerSmart program, which lends money to home and business owners so they can make their buildings more energy efficient

He says interest rates would be cut to 2.9 per cent from 3.9 per cent for homeowners.

For commercial businesses, the rate would drop to 2.9 per cent from 5.6 per cent.

The New Democrats are also promising to expand geothermal heat initiatives, as well as water and energy-saving programs for commercial and small businesses.

Manitobans cast their ballots April 19.
