NDP says Sask. Party keeping budget cuts under wraps until after April 4 vote

REGINA — The dome wrapped in scaffolding at the Saskatchewan legislature is being used by the NDP as a metaphor for the provincial budget.

NDP Leader Cam Broten says it's one thing to keep the dome covered while it's being fixed, but it's not right to keep the budget under wraps.

Broten says the Saskatchewan Party should have made the budget public and given people a look at the numbers before the provincial election was called.

A third-quarter budget update released just before the campaign started showed a $427-million deficit this fiscal year and projects a deficit for next year too.

Broten also took another swing at the Sask. Party as the April 4 vote nears, accusing it of cutting jobs and money in health care and education.

The Saskatchewan Party has repeatedly said that's not true.
