Cause under investigation as blaze destroys block of shops in Nanaimo, B.C.

NANAIMO, B.C. — Fire has devastated a high-profile block in the heart of downtown Nanaimo, B.C.

The blaze in the old Acme restaurant building, on Commercial street at Terminal Avenue, was sparked at about 6:30 p.m., Wednesday.

Firefighters had it controlled by early Thursday morning.

No one was hurt.

City of Nanaimo emergency program manager Karen Lindsay says the building is home to several businesses and is expected to be a complete loss.

A cause remains under investigation. (CKWV)
