Manitoba NDP leader says he'll limit school fees if re-elected April 19

WINNIPEG — Manitoba NDP Leader Greg Selinger says he'll cap school fees if he is re-elected April 19.

Selinger says he would not allow schools to charge more than $100 a year for regular programming, school supplies, instrument rentals and intramural sports.

He says the province would provide an extra $1 million a year to school divisions to help them abide by the cap.

The NDP is also promising to give parent councils $1,000 grants every year to help offset child-minding costs and fundraising efforts.

On the campaign trail, Selinger also reiterated an earlier promise to create 12,000 new child-care spaces in the coming years to address long wait times.
