Plane carrying Jean Lapierre's brother-in-law makes emergency landing

A plane headed for the Magdalen Islands was forced to make an emergency landing Wednesday evening at Bonaventure airport in the Gaspé region.

The Pascan Aviation plane landed at Bonaventure Airport a little after 7 p.m. and none of the 12 people on board were injured.

Denis Fréchette, one of the passengers, is the brother-in-law to political political commentator and former Liberal cabinet minister Jean Lapierre who was killed in a plane crash the day before.

Fréchette was on his way to join his wife Laure Lapierre who was already in the Magdalen Islands.

After Tuesday's crash took away the lives of Jean Lapierre, his sister and two brothers, Laure Lapierre is now the only surviving sibling.

Sûreté du Québec said a mechanical problem with the engine was the cause of the incident.

Fréchette said there were three ambulances and fire crews who spoke to all passengers and followed every protocol.

Pascan Aviation, a regional airline based in Saint-Hubert, said mechanics were on their way to the scene and the plane may be able to leave Bonaventure airport by early afternoon.
