Kasner, Kalthoff improve to 5-0 at Canadian mixed doubles championship

SASKATOON — Marliese Kasner and Dustin Kalthoff remained one of four teams still undefeated at the Canadian mixed doubles championship after a 10-5 victory over Erin Porter and Cory Schuh on Friday.

Kasner and Kalthoff (5-0) broke the game open with three in the third end followed by a deuce in the fourth for a 6-1 lead in Pool D action.

Porter and Schuh rallied to score twice in each of the next two ends to cut the deficit to one, but Kasner and Kalthoff tacked on deuces in the final two ends for a convincing victory.

Porter and Schuh dropped to 1-4 in the loss.

Dawn and Mike McEwen are also 5-0 after an 11-5 rout of Michelle Kruk and Jason Gunnlaugson. The McEwen's scored six in the first end.

Rachel Homan and Mark Nichols, along with Laura Crocker and Geoff Walker — all at 5-0 — were in action Friday night.

In other Draw 10 play, Joanne Courtney and Reid Carruthers improved to 4-1 by toppling Donda Lee and Ryan Deis 10-4 while Emma Miskew and Ryan Fry edged Danielle Inglis and Mike Anderson 10-9 to also push their record to 4-1.

Kalynn Park and Charley Thomas suffered their first loss of the tournament, falling 10-8 to Emilie and Robert Desjardins.
