Royals Kate And William Play Cricket With Legend Sachin Tendulkar, Local Kids In Mumbai

But only one of them was playing in wedges.

Anyone who has watched the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge through the years knows they are a sporty pair — we've seen them play volleyball, sail, play ball hockey, you name it. Sometimes Kate plays in wedges, and we are all duly impressed.

So it was an obvious choice to have them play cricket against one of the sport's legends as part of the first day of seven-day royal visit, during which they will spend time at different locales in India, and also visit Bhutan. William and Kate met with cricket great Sachin Tendulkar and a group of local children to raise awareness for children's charities.

Both royals didn't hold back, and got fully into the match. Prince William had a go:

Ever the athlete, Kate went to bat against Tendulkar, and, according to The Telegraph, she made out well, with Tendulkar calling her a "natural athlete" and saying she was a better player than husband William. And yes, she was wearing wedges.

Will and Kate's first stop on the tour was for the laying of a wreath at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, to honour the victims of the 2008 Terror attacks in Mumbai, during which the hotel was under siege by terrorists and more than 30 people were killed.

Now fully restored, the luxury hotel tweeted a sneak peek of the preparations made for the royal couple's arrival:

And others did as well:

The couple also visited the Banganga water tank, where they floated flowers onto the water as an offering:

And visited with local residents from the impovrished Banganga community, which neighbours one of the city's wealthy areas.

Their last event of the day was a star-filled fundraiser, with huge Bollywood names in attendance, including Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachan, Sonam Kapoor, Aamir Khan, and others, many of whom tweeted their excitement ahead of the gala:

The Bollywood royalty and the UK royalty were decked out in full regalia.

In the coming days, the royals will visit the Taj Mahal, New Delhi, meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, visit Kaziranga National Park and attend a birthday celebration for Queen Elizabeth II.

No word yet on whether they'll be playing any more cricket, but if the occasion arises, we think they'll step up to bat.
