NASA's Northern Lights Footage Looks Majestic In Ultra-High Definition

Space: Now in UHD!

Despite being in the fairly futuristic business of space exploration, NASA has typically shied away from sharing incredible celestial footage in the highest of resolutions.

That has thankfully changed with the organization's new project, NASA TV UHD. Partnering up with Harmonic Inc., the agency is releasing ultra-high definition footage captured from the International Space Station (ISS), according to The Independent.

For its first clip, NASA features the beauty of the northern lights.

The video, uploaded to YouTube on Sunday, uses time-lapses shot from the ISS to show the aurora borealis and aurora australis phenomena in crisp, clear quality.

Check out the video from NASA above, and make sure to change the quality of the video to 2160p. Use Wi-Fi — your data plan will thank you.
