So this one time, Kevin Smith got asked to make a film for Prince ... and the stories Smith came back with are anecdotes often repeated about the elusive musician.
During a 2002 Q&A session with the filmmaker , a fan asked Smith about his experience filming an unreleased Prince documentary.
The "Clerks" director had called the singer to ask for permission to use "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" in his comedy flick "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," he says in the clip above.
What followed was an involved discussion on snake analogies, the use of swearing in Smith's films, and finding camels at 3 a.m., as Smith relays in the clip below:
But it became clear, Smith notes, that Prince’s spiritual side was part of the conversation.
Prince and Smith went on to film footage with the singer's fans, which Smith thought was going to be a concert film. However, Smith says he ended up quitting the project after he determined the music icon was trying to make a promotional movie for his faith, the Jehovah's Witnesses. The footage was never released.
The pop music superstar was found dead in his home in suburban Minneapolis on Thursday.
On Thursday, Smith remembered the music icon in a tweet.
Smith shared his stories about Prince in "An Evening With Kevin Smith", a film compiling Smith’s Q&A sessions with college students across the U.S. from 2001 to 2002.
