Energy East Final Report To Be Released In March 2018

Consultations begin in August.

MONTREAL — The National Energy Board says its final report on the Energy East pipeline project should be completed by March 2018.

The federal regulator said on its website today that consultations with communities along the proposed pipeline route will begin this August and that a preliminary timeline has the report being issued 19 months later.

Quebec's Environment Department recently told the company promoting Energy East that environmental hearings into the Quebec portion of the project will resume in October.

The department has told TransCanada that a decision by the Quebec government on the future of the project could be made by March 2018.

Hearings into the Quebec portion of the project were scheduled to resume this week but were suspended after the energy company agreed to the provincial government's request to provide more detailed information about the pipeline.

Energy East would bring 1.1 million barrels of oil a day from Alberta and Saskatchewan through Quebec and into New Brunswick for overseas shipping.

The final decision on the pipeline rests with the federal government.
