Bride Turns Her Cancelled Wedding Into A Heartwarming Party

This is way better than a real wedding.

Talk about turning lemons into lemonade.

Yiru Sun was wearing her wedding dress on Saturday, but she wasn't exactly at her wedding.

The Manhattan insurance executive was supposed to get hitched in an extravagant wedding on May 7 but it didn't quite go as planned. The bride-to-be and her fiancé reportedly got into a fight over the proposed prenuptial agreement, and the wedding was cancelled — but their non-refundable $8,000 reception deposit was not.

Instead of staying home, Sun threw a party for 60 underprivileged children and their families for a pre-Mother's Day lunch.

Not only did the families get a free meal, but they also enjoyed face painting, ice pops and balloons.

"I should have been the bride. It was canceled," Sun, who has a six-year-old daughter, told the families at the Harold Pratt House in Manhattan.

"Initially I felt frustrated ... three weeks later, I woke up with this idea. At that moment, I started to think it was God’s plan," the mom told her guests, who were chosen with the help from The Salvation Army and Inwood House.

Sun told her guests that she grew up poor in China, but worked her way up when she came to the United States, studying hard and eventually winning a full scholarship for a graduate degree at Princeton University.

Even though she was understandably upset that she didn't get married, Sun said that making the kids and their families happy helped her heal.

"Although I cannot be the princess of my wedding day, all these kids they can have the princess or prince feeling today and I felt very happy about that," Sun told CBS New York.

What a thoughtful gesture!
