Blake Lively may be killing the style game at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, but she may want to rethink the photo captions she uses on her Instagram posts.
On Wednesday, the 28-year-old actress posted a split screen photo of herself from the "Cafe Society" premiere at Cannes, where she wore a curve-hugging, gold Versace gown. One photo showed the front of the dress, while the second showed the back, and Lively's derrière.
Hardly offensive, right? Wrong. The "Gossip Girl" star captioned the photo, "L.A. face with an Oakland booty," a line from "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-A-Lot, which, according to Urban Dictionary, "refers to a girl with a pretty face and a marvelous shapely ass."
Naturally, chaos ensued.
Twitter was quick to call out the pregnant mother-of-one for being racially insensitive, finding it to be problematic that the line came from a white, wealthy celebrity.
And Instagram users weren't too happy either.
"As if getting married on a slave plantation wasn't reason enough to hate her," one user commented on the photo, referring to Lively's wedding to Ryan Reynolds at Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens, an ex-slave plantation.
However, others were quick to jump to Blake's defense, saying those offended were being too "sensitive" to the song lyrics.
"You go girl!!! People are overly sensitive and need to get to work or a hobby but definitely a life. I've got an Oakland booty too even though I'm Hispanic is that allowed?" commented one user.
"People are so ridiculous... Taking a simple picture and caption completely out of context an making it a race issue. Why can't people just keep comments to themselves instead of trying to spread and validate their hatred. Shame shame...Blake, your gorgeous!!" wrote another.
It seems as though the "Savages" star isn't fazed, however, seeing as the photo (and caption) are still up.
As for Sir Mix-A-Lot, no word from him either.
