Louis CK Jeopardy: Comedian Donates $50K Win To Fistula Foundation

Louis CK proved he has hidden talent when he earned the champion title on "Jeopardy!" on Wednesday. The comedian beat out the other two contestants, earning US$50,000 for the charity of his choice.

CK was up against CNN’s Kate Bolduan and The Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart. He started off a bit shaky when he answered a question wrong and his score went into the negative, but he managed to turn things around by the end of the game.

He’ll be donating his winnings to the Fistula Foundation, a charity that helps women who suffer from a relatively unknown but serious issue. An obstetric fistula is an abnormal hole between the vagina and rectum that is usually caused by prolonged labour, leaving the woman incontinent.

The foundation helps to provide women in Africa and Asia with the resources they need to treat fistula. This includes ensuring that they have access to trained surgeons and the proper medical equipment.

Not only is a fistula extremely painful, the stigma surrounding it can have devastating consequences. CK said, “It usually means they become shunned and nobody will hire them or educate them or marry them. It’s a terrible thing.”

“Fistula patients, they’re modern day lepers,” Fistula Foundation CEO Kate Grant told USA Today. “Too often in places, women don’t get Depend pads or even hot showers or multiple changes of clothes, and end up way too often they become outcasts in rural areas.”

Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek told CK that it was good of him to choose a lesser-known charity for his winnings.

In response, CK said, “That’s why I’m here.”
