When it comes to sex, Canadians aren’t known for being full of surprises. A 2011 online survey found Canucks ranked low when it came to sexual spontaneity, with only 76 per cent of us reporting it versus 86 per cent globally.

But while spontaneity may not seem like a big priority if you’re happy overall with your bedroom activities, a lack of it can be one sign that your sex life is not as exciting as it could be.

"It's really hard to maintain the same level of chemistry and passion that we have at the beginning of a relationship," says sex therapist Vanessa Marin. "Even from a physiological standpoint, the chemicals that our brains release when we're falling in love and lust only last for a certain amount of time. But that doesn't mean all relationships are doomed to be boring!"
