PELHAM, Ont. — A three-year-old boy is in critical condition after being run over by a riding lawn mower in the Niagara region community of Pelham, Ont.
Niagara Region police say the incident took place on Thursday evening, when the boy's 32-year-old father was cutting the grass at the family home.
According to the initial police investigation, the boy had gone inside the house, but his father didn't notice that the child came back out and was walking behind the lawn mower.
When the father reversed the machine, it knocked the boy to the ground and ran him over.
An off-duty Hamilton paramedic supervisor who lives next door and first responders stabilized the boy before he was airlifted to a hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Police say the incident remains under investigation and that no names will be released at the request of the family.
