Vancouver Canucks sign defenceman Tom Nilsson

The Vancouver Canucks have signed defenceman Tom Nilsson to a one-year, two-way contract.

A native of Tyreso Sweden, Nilsson, was originally selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fourth round of the 2011 entry draft.

Nilsson, 22, spent last season with Frolunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League.

In 37 games, the 6-foot, 183-pound defenceman registered seven points (1-6-7) and 34 penalty minutes. He also added one goal and one assist (1-1-2) in seven playoff games.

In the 2014/2015 season Nilsson played 44 games for the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, registering six points (1-5-6) and 26 penalty minutes.
