Canadians Condorelli, Thomas each earn gold at Pro Swim Series events

Canadian Santo Condorelli won the gold medal and broke the national record in the 100-metre butterfly on Friday to open the Pro Swim Series event in Indianapolis.

Condorelli, of Kenora, Ont., clocked 51.98 seconds to break the previous national mark of 52.28 set by Joe Bartoch of London, Ont., in 2008.

China's Zheng Wen Quah took silver in 52.45 and South Africa's Dylan Bosch was third in 53.57. Mack Darragh of Oakville, Ont., was seventh.

Also, Olympic-bound Noemie Thomas of Richmond, B.C., won the gold medal in the women's 100 butterfly at another Pro Swim Series event in Santa Clara, California.

She clocked a meet record 57.72 seconds, with Australia's Emma McKeon second in 58.31 and Egypt's Farisa Osman third in 59.13.

In the women's 400 individual medley, Victoria's Sarah Darcel added a bronze medal, with Quebec's Sarah Lee Hevey fifth.
