Joel Plaskett Writes And Records Song For Tragically Hip's Gord Downie

"The bad news is this life is fleeting.. the good news is we've reserved seating"

When the Tragically Hip revealed that frontman Gord Downie had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, Canada mourned for the iconic rocker.

Since then, tributes and well-wishes have poured in for the 52-year-old Canuck, the latest being one of the most beautiful — and haunting — to date.

The song, which was originally a poem, contains beautiful lyrics such as, "Whitehearts on a silver chain/Dragonflies to ease your pain/If you find it hard to choose/Take a couple Russian blues" and "Bad news takes all shapes and forms/Prime ministers and college dorms/The bad news is this life is fleeting/The good news is we've reserved seating/I heard the news that you'd be going/I read it on my mobile phone."

Take a listen:

In May, the band revealed on their website that Downie was diagnosed in December 2015.

"Since then, obviously, he’s endured a lot of difficult times, and he has been fighting hard. In privacy along with his family, and through all of this, we’ve been standing by him."

After the news, the band also announced that they were going on one final tour, with Downie.

Tickets for the 15 scheduled concerts in July and August sold out immediately, leaving fans without tickets feeling angry and frustrated.
