Jets sign Shawn Matthias to two-year deal, Quinton Howden for one year

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Jets signed free-agent forward Shawn Matthias to a two-year contract on Friday.

The deal carries an annual cap hit of US$2.125 million.

The Jets also inked forward Quinton Howden to a one-year, two-way contract that has an average annual salary of $650,000 in the NHL.

Matthias, 28, scored 12 goals and 16 assists last year for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche.

The 24-year-old Howden scored six goals and five assists in 58 games last season for the Florida Panthers.

The Oakbank, Man., native spent his entire NHL career with the Panthers, who drafted him 25th overall in the 2010 draft.
