Any bus rider who's been stuck in traffic has wished for a vehicle that could just drive over the cars in front of it.
Now that wish is being realized in China.
Beijing-based company Transit Elevated Bus Technology on Sunday unveiled a prototype of a tall bus that straddles major streets, Global News and the Associated Press reported.
The Transit Elevated Bus (TEB) spans two traffic lanes and can carry as many as 1,400 passengers at once.
The company showed off a model of the bus at the International High-Tech Expo in Beijing in May, before revealing its prototype on Sunday.
A video from the reveal shows a vehicle tall enough to stand over two regular-sized sedans. The interior seating looks very much like that which you'll find on a conventional subway.
Engineer Song Youzhou told state news agency Xinhua in May that the bus would cost about 16 per cent less than a subway, and help to reduce both congestion and air pollution.
Testing of the bus is expected to begin this month or next.
