Chilliwack assault victim dies: Homicide investigation underway

A man found badly beaten in a Chilliwack home has now died of his injuries — and the Integrated Homicide Investigation team has been called in to take charge of the investigation.

The victim was found in a home in the 8900 block of Glenwood Street shortly before noon on Wednesday, according to  Chilliwack RCMP Cpl. Mike Rail.

The man was rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries, but died a short time later, according to police.

Investigators say the area surrounding the home will be cordoned off "for a significant amount of time".

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team — IHIT — says it is now the lead agency in the case, and will be working with the RCMP.

The victim's name has not been released, but friends postings online describe him as "a good person who got mixed up with the wrong things in life".

Police have yet to reveal cause of death — or whether a suspect is in custody.
