Government relations minister takes over from McMorris after impaired charge

REGINA — Saskatchewan Government Relations Minister Jim Reiter is taking over most of the responsibilities of Don McMorris, who resigned after being charged with impaired driving.

Premier Brad Wall has appointed Reiter as minister responsible for Crown Investments Corporation, Saskatchewan Government Insurance, Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority and the Public Service Commission.

Wall says Reiter will serve on an interim basis until a cabinet shuffle expected later this month.

McMorris, who was also deputy premier, has said he was charged Friday after slowing down at a construction zone east of Regina, where he said he was pulled over by RCMP.

McMorris said he will also leave the Saskatchewan Party caucus while he deals with the case and seeks counselling.

Wall says he will not name a new deputy premier until the upcoming cabinet shuffle.
