Five Female Olympic Athletes Open Up About Body Confidence

Everyone has body issues.

If you've ever admired the toned, strong bodies of Olympic athletes you'd probably have a hard time believing any of them would struggle with body confidence, but they do.

In the video above by Health.com, Team USA athletes Gabby Douglas, Missy Franklin, Aly Raisman, Sanya Richards-Ross, and Dana Vollmer reveal how they really feel about their bodies and their athletic success.

"I was 6'1 when I was 13-years-old and I was a little resentful of that growing up 'cause it made me different, it made me stand out," five-time Olympic medalist Missy Franklin confessed. "As I got older I began to realize that I wouldn't be able to do what I do in the pool if I didn't have the body type that I have."

Like Franklin, many of the other athletes struggled with the way their bodies looked. Six-time Olympic swimming champion Dana Vollmer admitted her body struggles came after the birth of her son. As many mothers do, Vollmer worried about putting on a bathing suit after having a baby, but she said once she did she found it to be a humbling experience.

So before you beat yourself up for not having abs like an Olympian, remember to love the body you're in because it is what makes you, you.
