SASKATOON — A prisoner's escape from a Saskatoon jail was cut short after he was discovered hiding in a strip mall garbage bin.

Police say the 24-year-old was one of two prisoners who attempted to escape from the Saskatoon Correctional Centre on Wednesday afternoon.

One of the men was caught before he managed to get off the provincial facility's property.

The other headed north on foot, and made it a short distance to a strip mall.

He was found minutes later by police and returned to custody.

Officials with the jail are investigating the incident.
