COALDALE, Alta. — Police in southern Alberta got a bit of a scare when a woman brought them dynamite she found in her home.
Mounties say the woman came to the detachment in Coaldale on Friday afternoon, telling them she had the explosive in her vehicle.
Police evacuated an area around the detachment and called in the bomb unit from Edmonton, nearly a five-hour drive north of the town.
Cpl. Hal Turnbull said police are taking all precautions to ensure the safety of both the police and public.
He says it's not known how long it will take the bomb unit to safely dispose of the dynamite.
RCMP asked people to avoid the scene until further notice.
