Michael Jackson’s son, Prince, has penned a touching poem in honour of what would be the late King of Pop’s 58th birthday.
“Today we celebrate the birthday of a legend, but don't forget to celebrate the Man,” the 19-year-old wrote on Twitter on Monday. “Here is a sonnet written for him.”
The poem gives sweet insight into Jackson as a son, brother and father. “The many know the Legend and the Myth,” Prince writes. “A lucky few know the Man as he is.”
Prince was just 12 years old when his father died seven years ago on June 25, 2009. His siblings, Paris and Blanket, were also quite young when they lost their father, at ages 11 and 7, respectively.
This isn’t the first time Prince has paid tribute to his famous father. Just before his 18th birthday in February last year, the teen thanked Jackson on Twitter.
“Before I turn 18 tomorrow I really want to thank a few ppl (sic) and first is obviously my dad,” he wrote. “He was and is as incredible human being… not only did he give me the gift of live (sic), he gave me an incredible opportunity to make something of myself.”
Prince is now a college student at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and, according to Entertainment Tonight, the teen has also started his own production company called King’s Son.
In the past, Prince’s sister Paris has also paid a number of tributes to their late dad. One of her most recent was back in April, when she honoured Jackson with a special tattoo to mark her 18th birthday.
“‘Queen of My Heart’ in his handwriting,” Paris wrote on Instagram. “To everyone else he was the King of Pop. To me, well, he was the king of my heart.”
As for the youngest Jackson, 14-year-old Blanket, he’s been keeping out of the limelight. But based on a recent photo from his eldest brother’s Instagram, it looks like the young teen (far left, blue shirt) is living well and remains close with the Jackson family.
