Woman dead, man injured in single vehicle rollover on Highway 401 in Mississauga

A woman is dead and a man is injured after a single vehicle rolled over on Highway 401 eastbound near Highway 403 in Mississauga on Saturday morning.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of the Ontario Provincial Police said the crash occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on Highway 401 eastbound in the express lanes at Highway 403 just west of Toronto's Pearson Airport and Dixie Road.

Schmidt said it appears that the vehicle, a GMC Jimmy, lost control while travelling on Highway 401 eastbound, came out of the right express lane and rolled over, coming to rest in an median or ditch between the Highway 401 express and collector lanes.

A man, 60, and a woman, 62, were in the vehicle. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was airlifted by air ambulance to hospital with unknown injuries and in an unknown condition, Schmidt said.

The OPP have closed the Highway 403 eastbound express on-ramp to Highway 401 eastbound. Two right lanes of Highway 401 eastbound express from Highway 410, which were closed, have been reopened.

Schmidt said the OPP's traffic support unit is at the scene doing a technical reconstruction investigation and that the investigation could take hours.

Anyone who witnessed the rollover is urged to call the Port Credit OPP at (905) 278-6131.
