Last week, a Pennsylvania cafeteria worker quit her job over her school’s new lunch policy, which she claims shames its students.
Stacy Koltiska says she was forced to take away hot lunches from two children because their parents owed Wylandville Elementary School over $25 worth of school lunches.
Speaking about one of the kids, Koltiska told KDKA: “His eyes welled up with tears. I'll never forget his name, the look on his face.”
According to AP, this new policy was put in place by Canon-McMillan School District over the summer. Students whose parents owe the school more than $25 in lunches will not be given any meals. However, exceptions are made for students in kindergarten to Grade 6. These younger kids will not receive a hot lunch, but instead will be charged a cold sandwich, fruit and milk to their accounts.
The policy was put in place to deal with over 300 parents who owe the school thousands of dollars in lunches.
