Simply delicious.

Editor's note: This story was written in 2016. In 2018, Rosh Hashanah is celebrated from sundown on Sep. 9 to the evening of Sep. 11.

From sundown on Oct. 2 until the evening of Oct. 4, Jews around the world will celebrate New Year with the holy festival Rosh Hashanah.

The two-day festival is celebrated with prayer services, candle lighting and horn blowing ceremonies and, like most holidays, delicious meals and sweet treats.

In the slideshow below, we've rounded up 28 Rosh Hashanah recipes. From sweet apple and honey delicacies to lip smacking pomegranate glazed short ribs and pickled brussels sprouts, these recipes keep with tradition without seeming old fashioned.

Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the Jewish High Holy Days known as Yamim Noraim. It is then followed by Yom Kippur, also known as "the day of atonement."
