Alberta woman attacked while walking to work; remains in critical condition

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — A 25-year-old woman from southern Alberta remains in hospital in critical condition after being violently attacked on Friday morning while she was walking to work.

Lethbridge police say it happened between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Staff Sgt. Scott Woods says investigators have been canvassing the neighbourhood looking for information or security camera footage.

Woods says police are trying to piece together the woman's activities and interactions prior to the assault.

He says it's not known if the attack was random or targeted.

Police are urging people to travel on well-lit paths or sidewalks near main roads, and not to walk or run alone if possible.

"Anybody who has any information, we're asking them to come forward," Woods said Monday. "Nothing's too small. Nothing's too insignificant, as much as people sometimes ... think they're bothering us."
