Karl Lagerfeld Blames Kim Kardashian For Being Too Public With Wealth

The fashion icon suggested the reality TV star shouldn't be "surprised" about the robbery.

PARIS - Fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld lambasted Kim Kardashian to the AP for being too flashy with her money following her $10 million heist.

Chanel's couturier suggested to the AP that Kardashian was partly to blame for the heist, in which the reality television star was tied up and robbed of millions of dollars of jewelry.

"(She is) too public, too public ... we have to see in what time we live. You cannot display your wealth then be surprised that some people want to share it,'' Lagerfeld said after the Chanel show on Tuesday.

"I don't understand why (Kardashian) was in a hotel with no security and things like this. If you are that famous and you put all your jewelry on the net you go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room,'' he added.

Despite his criticism, Lagerfeld supposedly wrote Kim a note Monday, saying "Dearest Kim, we are all with you."

Lagerfeld wasn't the only one from the fashion world to condemn Kardashian West for her own robbery — Paris Fashion Week attendees showed little sympathy for the 35-year-old reality TV star.

"Well, she should stop Instagramming pictures of herself in her hotel bathroom," an American magazine contributor told The Hollywood Reporter.

Yahoo! Style also overheard one editor at a show expressing little surprise at the incident.

"That’s what happens when you invite cameras around every time you go shopping for more designer stuff."

Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in her hotel room early Monday morning.

According to E! News, Kim was "gagged and bound at her hands and feet, then handcuffed at gunpoint" Monday morning. Five men left her tied up in a bathroom before stealing over US$10 million worth of jewelry.

"She begged for them to let her live and [said] she had babies at home. Then they wrapped her mouth in tape and put her in the bathtub," the source told E! News. "She thought they were for sure going to kill her."

A spokesperson for Kardashian West said the reality star was "badly shaken but physically unharmed."

Kim has since left Paris for New York City. No one from the Kardashian family has spoken publicly about the robbery yet.
