Toronto Police Want Idiot Beer-Tossing Blue Jays Fan To Come Forward

The search is on for the Blue Jays' least valuable fan.

UPDATE - 11:10 p.m. ET: The suspect in a photo released by Toronto police has been identified as a sports journalist named Ken Pagan. He told the Toronto Sun that he had been drinking out of a cup at the game, suggesting that police have it wrong.

Turn yourself in, you dummy. The cops have pictures.

An electrifying wild-card game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles Tuesday ended in triumph for the home team — but it also made viewers witnesses to a disgusting display of fan behaviour.

In the seventh inning at Rogers Centre, as Orioles outfielder Hyun Soo Kim reached up to catch Melvin Upton Jr.’s fly ball, a can of beer crashed down onto the field nearby.

Canadian Press photographer Frank Gunn snapped a photo of the area, seconds after the Blue Jays fan hurled the can toward the visiting player.

In an attempt to identify and kick out the person responsible for the unwarranted projectile, Orioles manager Buck Showalter came out onto the outfield to speak with umpires. But the beer tosser apparently got away.

Meanwhile on the other side of the stadium, centre-fielder Adam Jones turned his head toward those in the left-field stands — and called out fans seated in the area where the beer was tossed for unruly behaviour.

In a post-game interview with the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles player explained he was livid that someone had the nerve to throw a beer down at his teammate.

First and foremost, that was about as pathetic as it gets between the lines. You don’t do that, I don’t care how passionate you are, how you think you’re passionate. You don’t do that. Yell, cuss, scream, we suck, we’re sacks of [crap]. We know, we’re horrible. We get it. We’re the opponent. We completely understand that, but to throw something at a player, that’s just as pathetic as it gets, and I hope they find the guy, and I hope they press charges.

On Wednesday, Toronto police announced that they’re investigating the incident and urged the Jays fan to come forward.

“Turn yourself in,” Toronto Police Service said in a tweet. "We have photos." The force eventually released an image of the suspect.

On top of the other unsportsmanlike behaviours noted at the game (ahem, racial slurs), the beer toss has inadvertently created a shameful reputation for Blue Jays fans.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Toronto Blue Jays released a statement expressing their “extreme disappointment” over the beer tossing incident.

Last year, a similar incident occurred during the AL Division Series against the Texas Rangers. Toronto would go on to win the series. But now, thanks to the Blue Jays’ 11th-inning victory, the two teams are set for a rematch.

The Jays are set to face off against the Rangers in Texas on Thursday.

Hopefully, Toronto’s worst baseball fan will turn him or herself to police before then.
