Thanks to Kanye West (and Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner), sock boots are pretty much one of the hottest shoe trends of the season.
The bootie, which features a sock-like ankle, was first seen on the Yeezy Season 2 runway, and has been flooding our Instagram feeds ever since.
However, Yeezy's version will cost you a whopping $895 — way too expensive for we non-Kardashian/Jenner folk. But thanks to a brilliant tutorial by YouTuber Shay Cherise inspired by Collette Emily you can make your very own pair for under $10.
As seen on Cherise's viral Instagram tutorial, all you need to make your own sock boot is a pair of pointy-toed pumps, thin knit socks and sandpaper. Simply roll the sock over the heel, cut a hole at the heel and slide it through the sock and put sandpaper (or non-slip grips) at the bottom of the sole to prevent any slippage.
In the video above, you can see associate editor Monika Markovinovic trying out the DIY hack herself — and it worked. The only real problems she found was the added bulkiness from the toe seam of the sock, and the tiny run she experienced when cutting a hole at the heel.
Watch the vid to see how the DIY sock boot is made, and feel free to try it out for yourselves!
