Eighty-Year-Old Model Wang Deshun Proves Age Has Nothing To Do With Fierceness

"To prepare for this day, I've been getting ready for 60 years."

World, meet Wang Deshun — the 80-year-old grandfather who is proving high fashion runways do not have an age limit.

Commonly referred to as China's "hottest grandpa," Deshun is out to subvert China's image of what it means to be old. Described by the New York Times as an "actor, model and artist," the silver-haired gentleman became a national sensation after walking his first runway show last year at Chinese Fashion Week at the age of 79.

"Many people started noticing me after a catwalk show," he said. "Some people call me 'the hottest grandpa'. Some also said that I'm an instant Internet sensation. But do you know what? To prepare for this day, I've been getting ready for 60 years."

And Deshun was a natural when it came to conquering the catwalk. In the early '80s, he taught runway modelling at a Beijing fashion school and staged what he believes was the first modelling show.

So, what's his secret? Books, news, exercise, not too much alcohol and whatever he wants to eat.

"I am not picky at all about what I eat. I eat whatever I want," he told the New York Times in a recent interview.

Deshun believes you can change your life as many times as you wish, as long as you always keep your goals in mind.

"One way to tell if you’re old or not is to ask yourself, 'Do you dare try something you’ve never done before?'" he said in a recent interview at a hotel in Beijing, according to the New York Times.
