REGINA — The Speaker of the Saskatchewan legislature says there has been a steady erosion of decorum in recent days because of inflammatory and provocative comments hurled across the floor.
Parliamentary rules don't allow legislature members to accuse each other of lying, but Corey Tochor says MLAs have come close to questioning the truthfulness of other politicians.
Tochor notes that one government MLA accused an Opposition member of, quote, "making this up in their pretended minds."
Tochor told the assembly that the comments have to stop and has asked members to tone it down.
After question period, the Speaker was about to say that behaviour was improving, when there was another rowdy exchange.
Tochor then said that unfortunately, at the end, things went, in his words, "a little sideways."
