Oprah Winfrey In Hot Water After Donald Trump Remarks

"I couldn’t breathe after the election," she explained.

Oprah Winfrey found herself in hot water recently after she shared her optimistic views of president-elect Donald Trump.

Last week, the media mogul, who openly supported Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, tweeted out, "Everybody take a deep breath! #HopeLives," with a screenshot of Obama and Trump's first meeting.

Winfrey later revealed in an interview with the Associated Press that she saw a positive change in Trump.

"I could sense, maybe I'm wrong, but I could sense from Donald Trump's body language even when he came out for the acceptance speech, that brotha has been humbled by this whole thing," she said. "I think it's a humbling process that now you literally have the weight of the world on your shoulders."

However many didn't agree with her stance, and made no qualms about sharing their sentiments online.

Winfrey later explained her comments during a Q&A following a screening of Ava DuVernay’s documentary "13th" in Los Angeles on Sunday.

"I couldn’t breathe after the election," the 62-year-old said. "So when I saw [Trump and Obama] sitting together, I actually took a picture of the screen that said ‘president-elect Trump honoured to meet Obama.’ And President Obama was being so gracious, and I heard Donald Trump say, ‘He’s a good man.’ I heard Donald Trump say, ‘I’m going to be seeking his counsel.’ I literally went, 'I can breathe now.'"

She later added, “My mistake, and this is what I know to be true: you can never talk about 'everybody.' Even in your arguments with your husband and your children. Don’t talk about what you should do, what you ought to do. You can only speak for yourself. So what I should have said was, ‘I just took a breath.’ What I said was, ‘Everybody take a breath – #HopeLives.'"
