Melania Trump And Son Barron Won't Be Moving To The White House For Now

The 10-year-old will get to keep his floor of the Trump Tower for now.

President-elect Donald Trump has told reporters that while he will move to the White House, his wife and youngest son will remain in New York for now.

During a photo op at his golf club in New Jersey, Trump was asked if he was moving to Washington, which he answered yes. However, Melania and 10-year-old Barron won't join him right away. They will make the move "very soon. Right after he finishes school."

That likely means mom and son will remain at the Trump Tower in New York City.

CNN reports that when asked about Trump's comments, a transition team spokesperson said on Sunday: "No official statement has been released by the Trump family regarding transition timing, but like any parents they are concerned about pulling their 10-year-old son out of school in the middle of the year. We would also appreciate the same privacy and security considerations given to previous First Families with regard to minor children be extended to the Trumps as well."

The delayed move isn't surprising. Melania has been very clear that she puts her son first. In an interview with People magazine, the 46-year-old said: “Barron... needs somebody as a parent there, so I am with him all the time. As you know my husband is travelling all the time."
