Diner Tips Waiter Over $1,000 To Visit Family In Northern Ireland

"Hopefully this can get you back to Ireland for the holidays."

One very kind diner in Texas decided to give the ultimate gift to one fortunate restaurant employee just in time for the holidays.

Ben Millar, a 22-year-old waiter, was serving a man named Jeffery this past Saturday, and mentioned in passing that he would like to see his family in Northern Ireland more often. The Irish expat explained that he had not seen them in over two years.

"I thought nothing of it, and we all joked after," Millar said, as reported by ABC. "The night went on, and I proceeded to give good service and talk to them."

To Millar's surprise, when it came time to collect the bill, he realized the patron had left a $1,011.71 ($750 USD) tip, with a note on the receipt that read, "Hopefully this can get you back to Ireland for the holidays."

The waiter, who was floored by the touching gesture, told ABC News on Tuesday that he plans to save the money until his girlfriend, Taryn Keith, gives birth to their baby. He then hopes to take his new family back to visit Belfast, North Ireland.

"I also hope I can reach out to Jeffrey so he knows how much I appreciate it," he later added. "It means a lot to me, but more to my family back home who will benefit from seeing me again since almost two years."

Keith, who shared a photo of the bill on her Facebook page, was also deeply touched by the heartfelt act of kindness.

"Thought I would share it to show everyone that's there is not only hate out there," she wrote in the photo caption on Sunday. "Truly blessed."

CORRECTION: A previous version of this headline said that Ben Millar was from Ireland. In fact, he is from Northern Ireland. This version has been corrected.
