RCMP Ask Public To Steer Clear Of Pincher Creek Due To Emergency Situation

There were no indications anyone was hurt.

PINCHER CREEK, Alta. — A man has been arrested in Pincher Creek following an emergency situation that blocked streets and shut schools in the southwestern Alberta town.

The RCMP were responding to reports of gunshots at a home and warned the public to stay away from the area until early Wednesday afternoon.

"No one else was involved in the incident and the situation is resolved,'' RCMP said in a release, adding charges are pending.

The RCMP sent an emergency response team, which is called in to deal with dangerous situations.

The Livingstone Range School Division said that just before 6 a.m., a school bus transportation co-ordinator tried to open the gates to the bus compound, but was told by an officer to leave.

School division senior administration were informed about the potentially dangerous situation and schools in the town were closed. The incident was near a high school, which was closed before any students arrived.

"The division is awaiting further details but can confirm that all ... students and staff are safe and away from the vicinity of the schools,'' the school division said in a release.

The town's Catholic school was also closed.

A post on the town's website said a portion of downtown was blocked off and the town office, swimming pool and community centre were shut for the day.

Pincher Creek has a population of about 3,600 and is about 215 kilometres southwest of Calgary.
