Victoria Mom Arrested After Being Found Unconscious Behind Wheel With Child In Car

Passersby tried to help.

Police in Victoria, B.C. found a woman unconscious behind the wheel with the car still running and her child strapped in the back seat on Thursday.

Passersby noticed the stopped vehicle in the 100-block of Gorge Road East around 9 p.m. PT and had tried to help but couldn't get into the locked car, said a news release from Victoria police on Friday.

When officers arrived, they had to break a passenger side window to reach the mom and child.

"It was then that they noted evidence indicating the driver may be impaired by drugs and alcohol," said police.

Paramedics treated the woman, who was taken to hospital and then into police custody.

The child was also checked out at the hospital and released with no physical injuries.

Victoria police commended passersby for trying to help and for alerting 911.
