Deer Lake Highway In Newfoundland Blocked By Herd Of Caribou

Wow.

There wasn't a deer to be seen on the highway outside of Deer Lake, N.L., but there were plenty of caribou.

Charlie Hamlyn was driving west on the Trans-Canada Highway just outside of the town when he spotted this herd of caribou blocking the road. The large mammals were attracted to the salt on the highway.

"There's not much chance of getting through here, is there?" his travel companion says with a laugh.

It was quite the sight — but also a great reminder to take it slow on the highway around this time of year.
