Paraplegic Man And Fiancée Share Cheeky Pregnancy Announcement

“It still works!”

A paraplegic man and his fiancée have defied the odds and are expecting their first child together. To share their joy and excitement, the couple posted their cheeky pregnancy announcement on Reddit earlier this week.

“I hear Reddit likes seeing paraplegics defy the odds...” they captioned the photo.

In the image, dad-to-be Todd Krieg is seen with his tongue out, giving a thumbs up, while his fiancée Amanda Diesen is seen face-palming and holding up an ultrasound photo.

“It still works!” is hilariously written on the brick wall behind them.

Krieg is a former dirt bike racer who became paralyzed from the chest down in 2014 after he was involved in a biking accident. A year later, he visited a paralysis recovery centre in California, where his future fiancée was working as a therapist. The two fell in love and when Krieg left to go back home to Ohio, Diesen went with him.

When the couple discovered they were expecting, they were completely surprised. After all, doctors had previously told them that “it would be nearly impossible to conceive naturally due to Todd's injury.”

Despite this, the couple defied the odds.

“We definitely weren't trying to have a baby — we wanted to get engaged, get married, and then start trying in a few years,” mom-to-be Diesen explained to Today.com. “We found out at the beginning of December and were extremely shocked and overwhelmed. We took a test together and just about freaked out.”

“It was au natural, no IVF,” she continued. “Doctors had said it was possible, but the chances were very slim — that it probably wouldn't happen without help like IVF or other devices.”

To make their pregnancy announcement even sweeter, the day of their photo shoot was also the day Krieg proposed to Deisen.

Speaking about their pregnancy announcement, Diesen told People magazine, “It was great, we’re so goofy, and we wanted something to portray our relationship.”

On Valentine’s Day, the couple found out they were expecting a baby boy. Naturally, they also shared a goofy, but adorable photo of their gender reveal on Reddit.
