Oscars 2017: The Best-Dressed (And Wackiest) Stars On The Red Carpet

What a night.

The 2017 Oscars are here and it's time for Hollywood's best to shine.

Although most of the stars wish the event was a little more casual...

We mere mortals adore the celebration of the film industry's biggest and bright stars at the Academy Awards.

Especially their fashion choices.

When the stars are wearing an array of memorable, flashy and totally chic looks on the red carpet, it's hard for us not to pick the outfits that left us breathless and the ones that had us saying "Whhhhhaaaaat?!"

With "La La Land" leading with 14 Oscar nominations, you bet Emma Stone wore one of the chicest gowns of the evening, wearing a gold Givenchy number . And the ladies of "Hidden Figures?" Absolutely stunning — from Octavia Spencer to Janelle Monae. But Jessica Biel us saying, "Whhhhhat?"

So who dominated the red carpet and who failed to impress? Check out the best and wackiest dressed stars at the 2017 Oscars below!

WOW: Taraji P. Henson in Alberta Ferretti

VA-VOOM, TARAJI! In an old-Hollywood, off-the-shoulder midnight blue velvet gown by Alberta Ferretti, the "Hidden Figures" actress told Vogue that her Oscars dress spoke to the "strength and brilliance" of character she played, Katherine Johnson. With a high-slit and divine diamond choker, Henson kept her beauty look equally as glamourous with a golden eye, bronzed cheek and dramatic eyeliner.
WHAT: Jessica Biel in Kaufman Franco

Is that an Oscar? Or is that Jessica Biel? It's Jessica Biel. The column, long-sleeve dress, marked heavily in gold, consumed the actress.
WOW: Hailee Steinfeld

From her bold smoky eye to her glossy pink lip, everything about Steinfeld's look is perfection. Wearing a metallic hand-painted, pearl-grey silk organza gown from Ralph & Russo, the 20-year-old was a vision of youth floating down the red carpet. What we loved most about the gown? The 3D flower appliqué — just stunning.
WHAT: Dakota Johnson in Gucci

Is there such a thing as too much gold? In a high-necked, long-sleeved gown by Gucci, Dakota Johnson, the "50 Shades Darker" star, fell short in this look. The frontal details prove to be too much. The outfit would be better matched with her hair in a chignon, rather than leaving her hair down and straight.
WOW: Emma Stone in Givenchy

Now this is gold that works: a golden gown for a golden girl. Nominated for Best Actress for her performance in "La La Land," Stone couldn't have picked a better dress for the evening, shining in a flapper-inspired Givenchy number with tiered beaded tassels. As accessorized the look with Whispers of the Rain Forest earrings from Tiffany & Co. and a Audacious Lipstick in Mona by NARS. Pure elegance.
WHAT: Blanca Blanco

Here's the issue of wearing a dress with a hip-slit: you risk a major wardrobe malfunction. And it happened to the American actress on the carpet. There's a lot going on in this dress without the hazards. Bold yellow, bold pattern, mega sleeves. And we just want to tell her, "Girl, you're stepping on your own skirt."
WOW: Janelle Monáe in Elie Saab Couture

Janelle Monáe, we are not worthy of your beauty. Flaunting in a Elie Saab Haute Couture gown and a regal headband covered in stone by Forevermark Diamonds, the "Hidden Figures" and "Moonlight" actress was simply a dream on the red carpet. Her sheer bodice featured sequined birds and her waist beautifully shown off by a velvet belt and princess skirt.
ON THE FENCE: Halle Berry in custom Atelier Versace

We applaud Halle Berry for rocking her natural hair and "letting it be wild and free," but this sparkling one-shoulder Versace gown feels a bit dated. What we can say we love about this dress is the feathery, metallic train — so modern and chic.
WOW: Octavia Spencer in custom Marchesa

Ruffle those feathers, Octavia! Looking ever-so-elegant in a silk Marchesa gown with a skirt adorned with feathers and glittering beads, the Academy Award-winning actress is a vision in this grey colour frock that goes perfectly with her dark eye makeup and nude lip.
WOW: Naomie Harris in Calvin Klein By Appointment

Simple with a pop of colour ... Naomie Harris proves that's all you need for a perfect red-carpet look. This Calvin Klein dress is stunning with its peek-a-boo detail and statement train. Oh, and we should add this is Raf Simons' first red carpet look for Calvin Klein. Bravo!
WOW: Ruth Negga in custom Valentino

Red hot, Ruth! Firing up the Oscars in a custom Valentino gown with a Victorian neckline and full-length sleeve, Ruth was pure elegance on the red carpet. But our favourite part of the look? Of course her sweet headband and burgundy smoky eye, but also her blue American Civil Liberties Union ribbon.
ON THE FENCE: Priyanka Chopra in Ralph & Russo

Priyanka is gorgeous. We all know that. That soft pink lip and silky smooth hair paired with $5 million-worth of 60 carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings is just stunning. But its this structured Ralph & Russo dress that has us asking questions. Priyanka looks a bit stiff in it. We're not sure it was the right choice for her tonight.
WOW: Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton
Jeff Kravitz via Getty Images
One of our favourite beauty moments of the night: Alicia Vikander's messy bun. Seriously, can you hear girls all over the world rejoicing? We can. Stunning in a ruffled Louis Vuitton gown with its boxed neckline and playful sleeves, Vikander is glowing (her skin is perfect — what's her secret?!).
WHAT: Scarlett Johansson in Azzedine Alaia
VALERIE MACON via Getty Images
Lets start with the positive: Scarlett's hair. Shaved on the sides and styled beautifully on the top, the controversial "Ghost in the Shell" star pulls off the look, along with her simple makeup. But it is the sheer pink Azzedine Alaia gown, with its floral print, that is not Oscar-worthy. Also, that belt ... it's like she just picked it out of her closet and threw in on.
WOW: Brie Larson in custom Oscar de la Renta
Frazer Harrison via Getty Images
Cool, effortless, simple — that's the definition of Larson's Oscar look. Wearing a black velvet Oscar de la Renta gown, with dramatic frontal tiers, Brie Larson was a stunner on the red carpet, one she matched her bold red lip to. And can we talk about that dramatic neckline? Flaunt it!
WOW: Viola Davis in custom Armani Privé
Jeff Kravitz via Getty Images
Can we please talk about Viola's new cropped haircut with delicate highlights?! Also totally chic is her fiery red, silk custom Armani Privé featuring a halter neckline and draped, off-the-shoulder sleeves. With highlighted cheeks and a nude lip, the Best Supporting Actress nominee for "Fences" is perfection.
WHAT: Ginnifer Goodwin in Zuhair Murad
Jeff Kravitz via Getty Images
In a similar look to Ruth Negga's, the "Once Upon A Time" star wears a floor-length Zuhair Murad dress equipped with a lace turtle-neck and sheer bodice paneling. Even though red is proving to be one of the hottest colours of the season, we think another colour would have worked better on the actress (like an emerald green).
WHAT: Nicole Kidman in custom Armani Privé
Kevin Mazur via Getty Images
Don't get us wrong — Nicole looks beautiful. That red lip suits her beautifully and her skin is glowing, but this nude Armani Privé with it's detailed beading is a bit overwhelming. We wish she could have worn her sequined Alexander McQueen dress from the Golden Globes again.
WOW: Emma Roberts in vintage Armani Privé
VALERIE MACON via Getty Images
A gown that is totally chic and helps the planet? Yes please! Emma Roberts flaunts in this vintage Armani Privé gown is apart of Suzy Amis Cameron’s “Red Carpet Green Dress Challenge” that celebrates sustainability in fashion. And can we talk about that blorange hair? It's the hottest colour of the season, and it looks perfect on Emma.
WOW: Kirsten Dunst in custom Christian Dior Haute Couture
Kevin Mazur via Getty Images
One word to describe Kirsten's look? Classic.
