After making history in 2015 for being the first model to rock natural hair on a Victoria's Secret runway, model Maria Borges is making headlines once again for being the newest face of L'Oréal.
But inclusion is nothing new for the beauty brand, as execs famously selected trans model Hari Nef to star in the makeup giant's True Match foundation line ad earlier this year, and have worked with models of various ethnicities and sizes in the past.
"I believe in the beauty of diversity and the empowering message that a girl who started from the bottom can be an international beauty symbol and be living proof that our dreams are valid, and the future ahead of us is bright," Borges said in a statement.
While other retailers may be behind when it comes to equal representation, seeing the French fashion brand represent women from all walks of life is quite refreshing, even though inclusivity isn't exactly a difficult thing to achieve.
Designer Christian Siriano, who's well-known for including diverse women in his runways shows, may have put it best.
"I just book girls that are fabulous," he told USA Today earlier this month.
As for Borges, she's confident that through her work, she can encourage more people to love the skin they're in.
"I showed women they don't have to look one way to feel beautiful," she told Glamour backstage after last year's VS runway show. "Be you and showcase your beauty."
