Watch Albinistic Fashion Model Connie Chiu Talk About Loving Her Differences

People want you to feel different. They want you to feel like an outsider. They want you to feel sad.

Sometimes our society has a hard time celebrating individuality.

People want you to feel different. They want you to feel like an outsider. They want you to feel sad.

But that should never be the case. We need to celebrate diversity and make it known that our differences should never be limiting.

Connie Chiu, the world's first albinistic fashion model, is doing just that by dispelling beauty myths.

According to NOAH, Albinism is "an inherited genetic condition that reduces the amount of melanin pigment formed in the skin, hair and/or eyes." Chiu, who grew up in Hong Kong, was told by her parents at a young age she was "different," with "light-sensitive" skin and eyesight, but that didn't stop her family from treating her like an outsider.

In the video above, she shares her story with Allure and talks about her journey to gain self-confidence.
