U.S. President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order that will remove environmental protections put in place by former president Barack Obama's administration, according to the new head of the country's Environmental Protection Agency.
EPA administrator Scott Pruitt appeared on ABC's "This Week" on Sunday, where he said President Trump wants to create jobs by walking back Obama's "anti-fossil fuel strategy."
The executive order — which Pruitt says will be signed Tuesday — is set to undo the Clean Power Plan, which regulates emissions from coal power plants.
Pruitt, a climate-change denier who has sued the EPA 13 times, also took the opportunity to slam the Paris climate agreement.
"You know, what was wrong with Paris was not just that it was, you know, failed to be treated as a treaty, but China and India, the largest producers of CO2 internationally, got away scot-free," Pruitt said.
"So Paris was just a bad deal, in my estimation."
In November, several scientists warned at the U.N. climate talks in Morocco that Trump's election would likely have catastrophic consequences for the planet.
