A tweet by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on April Fool's Day seems to have manifested into a real marketing ploy by one of Canada's largest breweries.
On the morning of April 1, Trudeau tweeted that his favourite beer — Labatt 50 — just got "three times as patriotic," along with a photoshopped image of the beer with a Labatt 150 label, referencing Canada's 150th anniversary which takes place this year.
A few hours later, Labatt Breweries started tweeting, and posted that the patriotic rebrand was actually no joke.
The company has yet to send out a press release about the beer, but tweeted that the beer will only be available in Canada, and that more details will be shared this spring.
Labatt will actually be celebrating its 170th anniversary this year. The company was founded in 1847 in London, Ont. Labatt 50 was one of Canada's most popular beers in the 1950s.
The Huffington Post Canada has reached out to Labatt for comment.
