Model Chrissy Teigen penned an honest open letter in Glamour early last month detailing her battle with postpartum depression. She revealed that while every aspect of her life seemed to be picture perfect on the outside, inside, it was a struggle.
"I had everything I needed to be happy," the Sports Illustrated star wrote. "And yet, for much of the last year, I felt unhappy. What basically everyone around me — but me — knew up until December was this: I have postpartum depression."
And while Teigen also mentioned in the essay that she has an "incredible husband," who is "exactly as compassionate, patient, loving, and understanding as he seems," John Legend himself recently admitted to The Sun that he wasn't fully prepared for his wife's diagnosis.
"You don't see it coming," he shares. "You're not emotionally prepared for someone that's going through a dark time as you're welcoming this new life. When you don't understand what's happening, it's a bit challenging to figure it out and you don't know if it's something you've done or some other reason why she's not feeling well."
"Once you understand what the reasons are then it makes perfect sense and you can adjust accordingly."
The singer also notes that he fully supported his wife's decision to open up to Glamour, saying, "I think it was good for her to talk about it."
But this isn't the first time the pair have openly shared their personal battles with parenting.
Back in 2015, Teigen took to Instagram to announce they were carrying, but also said that getting there wasn't exactly an easy road.
"As many of you know, we've been trying to have a baby for a while now," she captioned the photo. "It hasn't been easy, but we kept trying because we can't wait to bring our first child into the world and grow our family. We're so excited that it's finally happening."
John and I are so happy to announce that we are pregnant :) As many of you know, we've been trying to have a baby for a while now. It hasn't been easy, but we kept trying because we can't wait to bring our first child into the world and grow our family. We're so excited that it's finally happening. Thank you for all your love and well wishes. I look forward to all the belly touching! Xx
As for future family plans, Legend says the pair wants "three or four" kids in total, which we're sure baby Luna is very excited about.
